First I want to thank everyone for all the kind emails and support for my real estate business. Many of you have asked why I haven't put more personal thoughts and notes on this BLOG. Well, the truth is....I didn't think anyone would be interested! So, today, I'm going to do that.
I've started using Facebook recently and it has been sort of like a BLOG in that I do talk about real estate topics. Because I'm from Pearland, I have many friends, associates, past clients and relatives who keep up with others through family BLOGS, Facebook, MySpace, etc.
So.......here are some thoughts from real estate to family!
The real estate market is still pretty good here in the Pearland/Houston area. Our job market is still fairly stable and Pearland's location to Pearland has always been a huge selling point. We do have foreclosures and short sales to contend with, it is still a buyer's market, but we are listing and selling like crazy! That said, the house still has to be priced right, be in show condition and available for showings. This is not a market to speculate about pricing. Oh, before I forget, we just listed a property and 10 acres in Pearland....very rare. The house and 5 acres is being sold as a package and the adjoining 5 acres can be purchased as well. Very nice property. Back to real estate and the market. Our biggest hurdle here in the area is too much inventory. I can remember when they were having lottery type drawings for the lots in Silverlake! Those were the days. If the construction "starts" would slow down, then the resale market would be much better. That's difficult for me personally. As a long time Pearlander, I don't always favor the fast growth.....it's like we're always trying to keep up the pace. I like controlled growth...and I like when developers participate with the city and the EDC to provide job opportunities for our residents and green spaces, parks and all those things that enhance our quality of life. Being a Realtor, I am very much concerned about individual's property rights, lowering taxes, maintaining home values, etc. Actually, I've always been concerned about those things!
Many of you know that we have a new granddaughter! Kaylee Anne Warfield. We're so excited....Kaylee makes 3. I can't quite believe I have 3 granddaughters. I can still remember being in Jr. High in Pearland. Where have the years gone? I think I got married when I was 4.....yes, that's probably it. I can't be this age.......I still feel like 35! I have noticed that I'm starting to help my former classmates sell their parents' homes because they have passed away or moved to assisted living....at the same time...helping their children buy a home.....and then my classmates are moving up as well. It seems a little odd at times.....a reality check, I guess would be the best way to describe it. I do enjoy the trust and respect part of the relationship. So many times in the real estate business, the consumer is "on guard" while interviewing agents and going through the process. It's nice when someone has known me for 35 years, followed my career, knows the family, knows my ethics and the way I do business.....and calls me to help them with real estate. It's just wonderful. There is no substitute for helping others and having it be my career choice. I worked many years in the Human Resources part of the corporate world. While satisfying on many levels, it doesn't even compete with real estate! Now that I have built a team, including my daughter in law, Misti....we will be able to help others for years to come.
